Interactive Soundscape Composition - SuperCollider

This Soundscape Composition was intended for the setting of for example an art installation or exhibition. I was imagining something like the topic of Environment and Climate Change. The source recording is a simple phone recording of my plants at home, that I watered just when they were on the brink of dying. I was terrified by the sound they made and started to reflect around the relationship between human and nature.

Technical Goals:

  • Create a loop that sounds slightly different each time it gets played. If not paused or resumed it retriggers automatically one minute after the piece has finished.

  • Use samples, synths, effect synths, patterns, and randomization to create a dynamic ambient sound scape.

  • Using a Routine or Task to control the length and order of events

  • Composing a piece that could be altered later on to become a Multi Channel work

Creative Goals:

  • Spatial, temporal and spectral variation

  • Playing with the boundaries of Synthesized Sound and Real Audio Recordings

  • Giving the listener the opportunity to stay through a whole listening cycle by marking a clear start and end of the composition

  • Giving the listener(s) a different experience each time they listen to the composition
